ADCi Donates NAVTEQ Street Data to Support Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort
Appleton, WI – September 14, 2005 – The Second Brigade Combat Team, First Cavalry Division, Fort Hood Texas, set out on deployment to assist with the evacuation and provide supplies to victims of Hurricane Katrina armed with NAVTEQ street map data provided by American Digital Cartography, Inc. (ADCi). The Appleton based company provided the Battalion with free NAVTEQ data for 6 counties in Louisiana and 6 counties in Mississippi to assist in the mission.
The NAVTEQ data combined with digital topographic maps, satellite imagery and road vectors supplied by i-cubed, a Fort Collins, CO data provider, will assist the over 1,200 soldiers from the Brigade who will be stationed at the major naval base in New Orleans. Prior to deployment, the Battalion did not know where they were going to be stationed or where their mission would take them upon arrival. The data, which is being used on laptops, will provide soldiers with location and direction and a good sense of how to get from point A to point B. Anticipated to last 60–120 days, the mission is not involved with security. However, in the case of direct fire, they are ordered to engage in defense.

Battalion sources indicate the data supplied by i-cubed and ADCi has been “extremely” helpful.
